Welcome to Bubnell Cliff Farm, a 120-hectare family farm nestled within the beautiful Chatsworth Estate in the heart of the Peak District. Surrounded by rolling hills, stone walls, and dramatic views, our farm is not only our livelihood — it’s our home, our heritage, and our passion.

Our family has proudly farmed Bubnell Cliff Farm since 1987, when Chris and Sue — my parents — first took on the tenancy. Over the decades, they built a thriving farm rooted in care for the land and a deep respect for traditional farming values. In 2022, the next chapter began when I (Tom), a fourth-generation farmer, took over the reins. Today, supported by my wife Jo and our two daughters, continue the family’s commitment to producing high-quality food while enhancing the landscape for future generations.

At the heart of our farm are our native Longhorn cattle. We are home to around 200 Longhorns — a breed we are truly passionate about. Known for their distinctive sweeping horns and gentle temperament, Longhorn cattle are an Iconic British breed with a rich history. We believe they are perfectly suited to our landscape and our farming philosophy. Hardy and efficient grazers, they thrive on our pastures and play an essential role in managing and improving the land.

Our approach to farming is centred on environmental stewardship. We believe that good farming works hand in hand with nature. A key part of this commitment is our 40 hectares of woodland pasture creation — an exciting and long-term project designed to increase biodiversity, improve soil health, and provide shelter and habitat for wildlife. By integrating trees with grazing livestock, we are building a resilient farming system that supports both food production and nature recovery.

Our cattle are also grazed on diverse herbal leys — carefully selected mixtures of grasses, legumes, and deep-rooting herbs. These herbal-rich pastures naturally improve soil structure, enhance carbon capture, and provide a varied, nutritious diet for our animals. The result is healthy cattle, thriving soils, and flavourful, high-quality beef.

We are proud to sell our Longhorn beef directly to the consumer, connecting people straight to the source of their food. By selling direct from the farm, we can ensure full traceability, high welfare standards, and exceptional quality. It also allows us to build relationships with the people who enjoy our produce — something that matters deeply to us as a family business.

For us, Bubnell Cliff Farm is about more than farming. It is about heritage, family, landscape, and responsibility. As custodians of the land, we are committed to leaving the farm in better condition than we found it for generations to come.

Thank you for being part of our story.
